There is nothing like walking the Bainbridge Island Waterfront trail and discovering Cannery Cove Park on a sunny afternoon. You can sit and take it all in, and appreciate why Bainbridge is a special place.

A hidden park on Eagle Harbor, Bainbridge Island
Welcome to Cannery Cove Park
This beautiful little hidden gem is a park on Bainbridge Island. It is located on inner Eagle Harbor and is the site of a Strawberry Cannery from many years ago. Strawberries played a major role in the history of Bainbridge Island. In the early nineteen hundreds there were many berry farmers on the island, and their berries were processed and shipped world wide. Today, it is a tranquil grass meadowland, beach and tide-flat. You can see evidence of the past from a few remaining pilings and the concrete footings of the structures built in 1918. It is a reminder of the rich history and cultural heritage of Bainbridge Island. A great place to launch your kayak, have a picnic, or just have a quiet moment.

We may lose this park?
We just discovered this beautiful little waterfront park and have now learned that the City of Bainbridge is going to demolish it. It has made us sad, and ask why. There seems to be no valid reason that makes any sense. What we learned: This land is a gift from the estate of pioneer John Nelson to be permanently used by the citizens of Bainbridge as a park and for the recreational enjoyment of all. Cannery Cove is part of the island's cultural heritage and played an important role in the early Japanese American community. The city has misrepresented the land in an environmental study, and is going to spend a $1,000,000 of taxpayer money to demolish the park. This peaceful, historic place may soon be lost to us forever. We do not want to let this happen. Go see it, and if it captures your heart, tell the City Council you want this waterfront park to remain.
